The Orville - Sci- Fi Realm. There wasn't much to it. Partly, I don't think the ep was particularly well- paced. I don't think I needed to see his wife in bed with the guy, and there was a little too much ship porn coming out of dry dock. It just seemed a little too fast.. This show's biggest problem is that it wants too much to walk the line in the middle of the road.

It doesn't know if it wants to be a straight up parody of Star Trek like Galaxy Quest or even The Naked Gun on a Spaceship or a sort of TNG reboot with a lighter tone. As a result, it doesn't commit to a premise either way and push it and play with it. Maybe it figures itself out in coming weeks, but I doubt it has a lot of time. I was sufficiently entertained, particularly since there was nothing else to watch last night. As I suspected months ago, I'll be riding it out for the few weeks it'll be on.

I post occasionally on gameinformer and there was a guy there responding to an article about DSC where he said the show looked like crap and The Orville was going to be a hit while DSC didn't get a second season. I said DSC's second season is already partially paid for and for CBS not to greenlight it that far would be an admission of cataclysmic failure, so it won't happen, while The Orville will not see 2. I'm not sure even 1.
